It’s back to the future time it seems as we pull out the original Southwest Express route, last seen in September 2008. At that time we weren’t able to run the entire route because it was too dark to pass through Wandsworth Park. If the RC is any guide this week however we should be treated to a lovely sunset as we approach Putney along the riverside.
You may be aware that last Monday 26 June one of the regular slalom skaters on Serpentine Road, Krissi, was run down and killed while walking across the road into Hyde Park. A number of LFNS and Sunday Stroll regulars were close to Krissi and requested that this weeks route should pass the spot where she died at the corner of Albert Gate and Knightsbridge Road. LFNS is more than happy to make this small tribute, the London skating community is small and tightly-knit; and we set out to honour the memory of our own.
It’s a long-ish route and involves one large-ish hill, including the downhill implied by that. Always skate within your ability; you must be able to stop, turn and control your speed on an incline to participate safely.
That said it’s a novel route with some interesting bits, so come and have some fun.
