== THIS WEEK ==
Having made it through November with more than our usual share of wet
weather we're looking forward to a much drier December now. So for
THIS FRIDAY'S skate we go down to Battersea station and back, although
not the most direct way - the original route map looked like a Can
O'Worms(TM), while the revised and checked one is a little clearer.

On SUNDAY we'll be showing off to the Soho crowds before heading up to
Bloomsbury for a bit of culture, and back down everyone's favourite
smooth road New Cavendish Street. Half time near Russell Square
(Piccadilly line).

== LAST WEEK ==
On SUNDAY it rained, so no skate. Actually, on FRIDAY it rained as
well, but we managed nevertheless to get half a skate in. After a
shower at Trafalgar Square turned the roads a bit slippery we rerouted
to avoid the big downhill, and then when the rain started up again
later we were reluctantly forced to (ahem) "rein in" the skate at
Moorgate. Still, nice to get out for a change, even if it was just for
an hour or so.

== MORNING GLORY ==
A midweek skating opportunity for people who can get to Hyde Park on
Tuesday mornings. Various LSST members are contemplating informal
"Long Slow Skates" up and down Serpentine Road: a chance to work on
skating technique and get the bad habits out of your system before the
park fills with people. 8ish, Tuesdays.

You don't need to be fast - indeed, the point is not to go fast.
We'll all be comfortably in the aerobic zone and absolutely not
getting carried away and racing each other, oh no.

Much.
== UNMARSHALED STREET SKATES ==
LFNS too easy/wet/flat/sensible/long to wait? Want a midweek skating
fix? If you're happy skating in traffic, you might be interested in
some of the unmarshaled skates that go on on weekday evenings.
These skates have no route plans, no marshals and no maps: the rules
are (1) whoever is in front, leads; (2) if you lose the skate, you're
off the skate.
The NTWNS ("Not The Wednesday Night Skate") takes place every
Wednesday throughout the winter when the Londonskate isn't
running. Skaters meet at 8pm in Trafalgar Square, for an approximately
two hour skate taking on all obstacles - often including stairs,
escalators, ladders and multi storey car parks. This skate is not for
the faint hearted, you must be a very competent skater to take part,
and you should be used to skating in traffic. The skate finishes at
the pub, if you make it that far - it is not unusual to get lost
within the first 10 minutes. There's a reason it's informally known
as the "suicide skate" (though to be honest, it's mostly PR).
The East End Stroll is a more intimate skate, involving all the same
obstacles as the NTWNS, but at a more relaxed - albeit faster than the
LFNS - pace. The same rules apply, but provided you are able to keep
up enough, the skate regroups periodically for a breather (or a
cigarette), a chat, a smile, a dance or a sing... OK, maybe not the
singing. This skate tends to start and end in the City, and generally
depends on the numbers interested each week. To find out where it
starts, and to introduce yourself to the gang, head to
serpentineroad.com and keep your eye on the UK Scene.
The LFNS Marshals Association does not organise, plan, assist or
endorse these skates in any way whatsoever (just to be clear), but to
be honest they're not as suicidal as they sound. You *are*
responsible for your own safety and you need to be aware of your
surroundings. You choose when, what and how you skate - although
using the lift is considered cheating!
== WHEELS OF STEEL ==
Or if you're too much of a wuss to skate outside in the cold and the
wet (or even if you're not ...) - Friday 1st December (that's
tomorrow) sees the opening of London's newest Roller Disco, at the
Renaissance Rooms near Vauxhall Bridge.
The club opens at 8pm and goes on till 2am, so there's plenty of time
to get there after the LFNS finishes. Be aware that it might already
be fully booked for this week, but we're told it's worth turning up
anyway, as the lightweights who get there early just won't have the
stamina ...

== ONLY SEVEN SKATING DAYS LEFT UNTIL CHRISTMAS ==
Unless of course you're stupid/glamorous/masochistic enough that any
of the preceding are options, there are only three LFNSs, three
Strolls, and one Santa Skate left this year before we shut down for a
couple of weeks over the Christmas break. The last skates this year
are:
* Last LFNS : 15th December
* The Santa Skate on Saturday 16th
* Last Stroll of the year: 17th December
We return in the New Year: weather permitting, the first skate of the
year will be Friday 12th January. Roll on 2007
