Subject: [wow] Weak on Wheels: Hammersmith, Battersea
Date: Thu, 07 Dec 2006 16:52:32 +0000
== THIS WEEK ==
We have a Hammersmith! On FRIDAY we'll be Hammersmithing in the
evening, all over this land. Please look out for the marshals who are
hammersmithing out danger or hammersmithing warnings. 8pm, Hyde Park
Corner, usual rules apply. Pray for the sun to shine all day so the
Sol can Roll at night. Thank you.
On SUNDAY, rumour has it that we're going to Battersea. Look out for
smooth quiet roads in Chelsea and a socking great traffic snarl-up
around Knighsbridge on the way back (but we'll do our best to keep it
moving)
== LAST WEEK ==
This may come as an almost incredible surprise to anyone who didn't
actually witness it, but the SUNDAY STROLL last week actually went
ahead. Roads were a little slippery at first but soon dried out for
this trip through Soho to Russell Square and back across Fitzrovia and
Marylebone. Photos now up.

Lots of people asked about the music. This was a mix by our very own
Roger, who will I'm sure respond to appropriate (or inappropriate?)
incentives to produce more similar.

== ROLLER DISCOGRAPHY ==
Suddenly it seems like everyone's got one...
A few of us went along to the Vauxhall venue last week. As with all
first nights, not everything went as planned - as the leaking roof
proved. But soon we were going "round and around" with Stevie B on the
decks. 'Hot Stepping Granny' was looking out for us all blowing her
whistle or showing us what we were meant to do. For the "ladies",
Faris was dragging them around the dance floor going as fast
backwards as most of us could manage forwards! So apart from the high
cost of getting in a good time was had by all.

And on the basis that if enough is a good thing, more must be better,
there's another roller rink opening in the Fridge (Town Hall Parade,
Brixton SW2). Wednesday nights starting Dec 13th, starts at 8pm and
continues until 1am. Presumably if you're still there at throwing-out
time you get to solve the age-old mystery of whether the light stays
on when the Fridge door closes.

== SKATE IDLE 3: THE X FRACTURE ==
"In fact I hate just about every aspect of kareoke, and the only
appealing elements of Skate Idle are: a) the drinking, and b) the
people."
To which the only response can be to point out what Meatloaf said:
"Two out of three ain't bad".
Yes, it's the return of Skate Idle, the annual skater karaoke event:
this year we're in the Yorkshire Grey on Langham Street (near Oxford
Circus), and all the signs are that it'll be just as raucous as
previous events.
"So now I'm praying for the end of time ..."

== BY SPECIAL REQUEST: A MAN WITH A SPADE ON HIS HEAD ==
"All the preparations of reason, therefore, in what may be called pure
philosophy, are in reality directed to those three problems only (God,
Soul, Freedom). These themselves, however, have a still further
object, namely, to know what ought to be done, if the will is free, if
there is a God, and if there is a future world. As this concerns our
actions with reference to the highest aims of life, we see that the
ultimate intention of nature in her wise provision was really, in the
constitution of our reason, directed to moral interests only. "

== TEENY WEENY WEEK ON WHEELS ==
That's it for this week: your editor struggled from his sickbed (not
expected to last the night) to produce it and can't hod out much
longer before slumping back into the pit. So you get this special
truncated edition - be grateful for small mercies.
If you have comments, send them to my successors. If this was just
too much, the unsubscription link is in the mail footer (though more
normal service may be resumed next week, so don't do anything rash).
