== THIS WEEK: THE GREAT PETER ST SKATEOFF ==
PeterC kicks off the weekend by leading the LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE
past Lords and northwards to St John’s Wood for half time.
Peter’s still feeling a little sore from the Preston marathon last
weekend so go easy on him in the first half, and he’ll repay you with
some blistering runs along the west side of Regent’s Park and a push
down Baker Street on the black route which forms the second half of
this 12 mile skate. We meet at 8pm at Hyde Park Corner – we post the
weather call on the LFNS site at 5pm on Friday.

On this week’s SUNDAY STROLL, Pete L (aka Kensey) takes us on a
relaxed tour of Mayfair and Covent Garden then along the Embankment
where we pause for half time. We pass some high visibility tourist
spots, so polish up your bearings and dress to be seen.

And TONIGHT, get to the bandstand by 7:30 to pick up free goodies
before the LondonSkate kicks off. This week's route is a variation of
the classic 'West End & Fitzrovia' route, including some good runs
along Piccadilly, Whitehall and New Cavendish St. Half time at
Liverpool St. Free stuff from AQA, which apparently is a service that
answers text message questions, rather than a commentary on the
meteorological conditions. aqa can u tell me will it rain 2nite? thx

== LAST WEEK ==
"great skate! hadn't done a friday one for a while, really enjoyed it."
Just one of many comments from Sol's roads-with-names-of-marshals
skate on FRIDAY. Thanks to everyone who came, and of course to all the
volunteers in the vests - special mentions to Brook, Conduit,
Portman, Montagu, Theobald, Long, High and St Martin.

“ Some people take to skating like a fish to water, others take a bit
longer. It’s all down to practice”. The Sunday Stroll, featured in
Monday’s Metro newspaper.
“I came on my first ever Sunday Stroll this weekend and had the best
time ever! The pace was perfect and I loved the route through London.
It was great fun and I will definitely be back again. Thank you! Alice”
Congratulations to Alice and also to Sarah, for completing their first
Stroll last week.
This weekend marked the fifth anniversary of the SUNDAY STROLL and
Lead Marshal Alan decided to celebrate with the first one-way skate of
the summer. He led almost 250 people through the West End and the City
to a half time stop at Tower Hill and then on along the river before
turning north to finish at Mile End.
Whenever we head along the Thames we seem to be blessed with good
weather and this Sunday was no exception. Even without the music bike
(parts of the route were not bike-friendly) the skate was enormous fun
and those of us who made it that extra half mile to the pub got to
relax by the water and enjoy a well-deserved break after our trip.

== MARATHONING MARSHALS ==
10 marshals made the long trek to Preston last Sunday to compete in
the North Region marathon. Although we didn’t manage to retain last
year’s team trophy, all completed the race and received a handful of
medals for our trouble. Congratulations to Peter C, Natasha, Dan, Sol,
Fred, Hans, Tanya, Ray, Rick and Nina.
This was the first event in the British Inline Cup series, with the
Goodwood Roller Marathon and the London Inline Marathon still to go.
== GREAT SKATES, BABY ==
Congratulations to Kate and Duracell, LFNS marshals who are
celebrating the arrival of their baby boy on Monday morning. As yet
unnamed, but nicknamed Duracell AAA by their friends, this 3.5kg
little fella has already completed 2 marathons (Goodwood and Berlin
last year).
== MORE ROADS 4 BIKES ==
Thanks to people who signed the roads4bikes petition and/or contacted
their MP about the proposed changes to cycling advice in the Highway
Code. The online petition collected over 22,000 signatures, MPs
received hundreds of letters, and the Cambridge Cycling Campaign and
the CTC also made sustained lobbying efforts. The upshot is – good
news, they're changing it. The Department for Transport have now
produced another draft, which has significantly better wording to
rules 61 and 63 The revised version is expected to come out in the autumn.

== SKATERS WANTED FOR LE MANS ==
Teams are still looking for skaters to take part in the Le Mans 24
hour race on June 30-July 1. You don’t have to be a fantastic skater,
but it’ll help if you’ve completed a few street skates, can brake on a
hill and turn a corner on your skates. You’ll be joined by around 100
skaters from London and 2,000 others from all over the world. It’s an
unmissable experience, if only for the atmosphere, and you’ll be
skating on the famous Le Mans 24-hour circuit. Contact us via the
feedback form for more details.
