== THIS WEEK ==

The LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE heads out through Victoria towards some
of Southwarks's smoother roads before heading north again through the
City and Holborn, and some nice long runs on New Cavendish St, New
Bond St and New Piccadilly (er) to finish up. Half time by a train
track somewhere near London Bridge, if the map is to be believed.

On SUNDAY the skate is described as going "Somewhere Lovely, or
Battersea": sound's like our fearless leader Rogette needs a Thesaurus
again. Cup of tea in the park at halftime.

Tonight is the LAST LONSDONSKATE OF 2007. It's the "Vice City" route:
a tour of Victoria and Embankment with half time at Liverpool
Street. Don't miss it or you've missed the whole year.

== LAST WEEK ==

Been and gunner'd done it : on FRIDAY Roger took the LFNS up the
Arsenal, as they say, or to the the new Emirates Stadium to be
precise. A slightly longer than usual route took in some of the
longest and smoothest roads in London and proved a popular choice for
experts and newbies alike. After some half time fun at the stadium, we
cruised back via Highbury Fields, Islington, Old Street and the
Barbican.

Unlike the LFNS, the SUNDAY STROLL is a family event, so there will be
no smutty jokes in this Week on Wheels about SHEPHERD'S BUSH - nor yet
about the swords being waved in the park at half time. Kensey led us
on this 9 mile route through leafy green streets west of the city
centre. Photos up now.

== CYCLE SANDWICH ==

For some of us Sunday afternoon was the HOVIS LONDON FREEWHEEL: at the
behest of Ken, a section of the Embankment and roads surrounding were
closed off to motor vehicles for the benefit of 38000 cyclists. And a
smattering of skaters skiving (or warming up for) the Stroll, along
with the Firebrox, Londonskate's BassFreight and ASBOx backpack music
systems, and Thumper the aluminium electric wheelbarrow. And then we
met up with one of the Critical Mass sound systems and distributed the
radio receivers ...

The event was a resounding success by all accounts (there was even a
free lunch) and the organisers are already promising it'll be repeated
bigger and better next year. Going by the grins we got from the
cyclists surrounding us, our distributed topical tunes (Bicycle Race)
and 70s club classics were very welcome too.

We never did adequately resolve who has the loudest music system,
though Thumper definitely stole the show for looks.

== WE EXIST TO SERVE ==

Our IT department (Hi, Marty) tells us that the LFNS web site and all
its support systems is moving to a new server this week - depending on
how fast the DNS diffuses (if you don't understand, don't ask) you may
already be looking at the new site by the time you read this. DO NOT
ADJUST YOUR SETS. The transition should be seamless, but if
something's gone wrong, that's what it was.

The new setup is a little pricier than the old one but gives us a lot
more flexibility. Regular readers will know we don't solicit
donations towards the costs of the skate (and to be wary about anyone
who does, especially if they're claiming to train subsiding marshals)
but those persistent souls who have nevertheless struggled against our
indifference to matters financial and (metaphorically) pressed cash
into our reluctant palms deserve our thanks. And so does Goscomb.net,
the skater ISP.

== WEEK ON GHOULS ==

This year the free fancy dress HALLOWEEN SKATE is set for Sunday 28th
October at 5pm, starting at Serpentine Road and finishing at the Vic
for the now-traditional party. Pace will be about the same as
LondonSkate (that's a bit faster than the Stroll, a bit slower than
the LFNS). Route to be announced nearer the event, but we'll keep you
posted.

The Halloween Skate is an independent production in affiliation with
almost every organisation in London that has strapped wheels to its
feet and rolled. Except for the Segway Bondage Club, anyway - though,
hmm, there's a frightening costume idea.
