== THIS WEEK ==

The LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE this week would like to say: "be there
and be square": LM Sol is back from an impressive performance at the
Cologne Marathon, and will be taking us around Berkeley, Grosvenor,
Portman, Bryanston, Montague, Manchester, Cavendish, Hanover, St
James, Soho, and Bloomsbury Squares, plus special bonus Gray's Inn and
Lincoln's Inn Fields. (Lincoln's Out Fields were under consideration,
but they add 150 miles to the route and Northampton's not a great
place for a half time stop). Expect to see many fine examples of
wrought iron fencing and Residents Only signs. Half Time is near
Tottenham Court Road (Central and Northern lines).

The SUNDAY STROLL is heading out West to de-value some of the property
around Chelsea. Half Time is at the Sloany Pony at Parsons Green. This
weeks Lead Marshal has discovered some brand new tarmac and will be
attempting to piece all the smooth roads together in an 8 mile loop.

== LAST WEEK ==

Roggie led the LONDON FRIDAY NIGHT SKATE all the way to the hip, hop
and happening Hoxton Square. The first half route via Horseferrari
Road, Lambeth Bridgestone and the silky smooth Pat-a-Skater Square
proved a popular choice among our band of wacky racers. Coming home
the highlights began on the way down Pentonville Rise. After a brief
spot of recovery time to cool off wheels and bearings, our trusty band
of skate-mates wasted no time whizzing through the black runs back to
HPC. "Oooh, that was fun," said a skater later.

== PARK LIGHT (WHAT IS KNOWN AS ...) ==

Following our report that new and improved street lighting was to be
installed on the Broad Walk in Hyde Park, we can advise that this work
is complete. Unfortunately, though new there seems to be no
improvement - the King of Sweden has already been in touch with the
Royal Parks regarding a Nobel Science Prize nomination for creating
the darkest place in the universe. So watch out, as this upgrade has
only created more things to run into when getting to the Vic after the
LFNS.

And the word from our man on the street is TWIGS, which neatly
explains why he is face down on the street.

== CHILDREN ON THE SKATES ==

We welcome children on the skate but any children under 16 need to be
accompanied by an adult who is responsible for their safety.

The Sunday Stroll is usually the best place to take kids. Remember,
though, that if you can't keep up, you should leave the Stroll. It
does no one any favours when children are dragged along at the back of
the Stroll if they are really struggling.

Skating through the middle of London is not an obvious place to take a
small child. Children can be separated from the people they are with -
a scary experience for them and for marshals who have been known to
have to scoop them up from in front of traffic and reunite them with
their parents. Please do not bring more children than you know you can
safely supervise and make sure they understand that if a younger
friend or sibling can't keep up, they're all going to have to drop out
and try again another week.

== POSITIVELY THE LAST RACE REPORT OF THE YEAR, PROMISE ==

Cologne Marathon last Sunday marked the end of the outdoor racing
season in Europe, and all the speed skaters can now slack off, have a
beer or five and stop worrying about maintaining peak fitness. For
some of us the lifestyle change this will entail is already so small
as to be barely measurable.

17 London skaters (including 13 LFNS marshals) finished this race
around the streets of the former Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium.
Special congratulations to Sol for first place in W40.

== CLAP YOUR HANDS AND BARK ==

That's right, we need a seal. Following comments from riders and from
the skaters they skilfully avoided, the Firebrox is up on bricks
awaiting some replacement bits for its back brakes. We're hoping they
arrive and can be fitted this week, because none of us really enjoy
washing the blood off and picking limbs out of the chain after it
claims another victim.

If it's not ready for Friday, we hear that the skaters who sing to
fill the void do take requests. We're just not sure how they respond
to the request "please shut up for five minutes, will you".

"Do you know Loch Lomond?"
"Of course"
"Go and jump in it"

== TWAS THERE THAT WE PARTED IN YON SHADY GLEN ==

And it's goodnight from us. Don't forget the Halloween Skate is less
than three weeks away, so start thinking about scary costumes
(vampires, ghouls, HR managers, lawyers ...) now if you haven't
already. You can contact us using the form on the web site (don't
send email in reply to this, it bounces) if you have comments. If you
want to be removed from future mailing, the unsubscribe link is right
at the bottom.
